Gov. Mike Pence on Wednesday signed a bill re-establishing the Probate Code Study Commission that was terminated along with multiple other interim legislative committees in 2014.

Senate Enrolled Act 31 re-establishes the group as a subcommittee of the Courts and the Judiciary Interim Study Commission. The commission will study and recommend changes needed in the probate code, trust code or other statutes regarding guardianships, probate jurisdiction, trusts or fiduciaries.

Proponents of the bill have sought in the past two sessions of the General Assembly to reinstate the commission, arguing it played a key role in vetting and recommending needed legislation in complex areas of state law.
