The man reported the alleged incident to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on June 20, saying it occurred last fall. The report obtained by IBJ described a "sexual investigation" but did not provide details.
Adamson issued a statement saying the accusation was untrue.
“I’ve only recently become aware of accusations against me, which are completely untrue and without merit,” the statement said. “Unfortunately, it appears I’ve become a target of ridiculous accusations. These allegations of impropriety are false. I can’t say that any more strongly.”
He said he would refrain from further comment until the matter is resolved.
In a statement, IMPD spokesman Capt. Rick Riddle said: “We are aware of an allegation in a police report filed on Monday June 20 for an incident occurring in September of 2015. “We are working with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, and any public comment will be released by the Prosecutor’s Office.”
A spokeswoman for Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said Curry plans to seek the appointment of a special prosecutor to review the allegations. The spokeswoman said Curry was stepping aside because of his personal and professional relationship with Adamson.
Adamson, a Democrat, became the city's first openly gay council member when he won election in 2011. He was re-elected last fall.
