Whitley Superior Judge Douglas M. Fahl soon will be far from his courtroom in Columbia City. A major in the Indiana National Guard Judge Advocate General Corps, Fahl has been called to active duty and will be heading for a judicial post at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Fahl referred requests for comments to Indiana National Guard spokesman Sgt. 1st Class Jeff Lowry, who said Fahl would serve as a staff judge advocate during a nine-month activation. Lowry said Fahl would hear cases involving U.S. forces stationed at Guantanamo.

The Indiana Supreme Court in an order Friday appointed a judge pro tem to fill in for Fahl during his absence. Beginning July 9, Kosciusko County deputy prosecutor J. Bradley Voelz will serve as a temporary judge, according to the order.
