The Warrick County jury deliberated less than two hours before convicting 34-year-old Matthew McCallister in the February 2014 shooting death of Joseph Nelson of Martinsville. Nelson's body was found in a load of coal at the Alcoa Warrick Operations along the Ohio River just east of Evansville.
Defense attorney Steve Bohleber said in closing arguments no physical evidence directly linking McCallister to the crime and that much of the state's case was built on the testimony of Jade Stigall, McCallister's half-sister. She testified she witnessed the shooting.
McCallister and Stigall are two of the four people convicted in connection with the slaying.
