Indiana Department of Child Services director Mary Beth Bonaventura is scheduled to discuss child mental health and substance abuse issues at the Governor’s Task Force on Drug Enforcement, Treatment and Prevention Tuesday at Community Hospital East.

The public meeting will be from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the multi-service room of the hospital, 1500 N. Ritter Ave., Indianapolis. Members of the public are welcome to attend but public testimony will not be taken at this meeting.

For those unable to attend, a livestream will be available here.

In addition to Bonaventura, the task force also will hear presentations about neonatal abstinence syndrome, initiatives by the Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services and updates on pharmacy robberies in Indiana.

Gov. Mike Pence created the task force by executive order in September 2015. The group brings together representatives from law enforcement, the judiciary and the medical profession to take, according to the governor, “a holistic and collaborative approach to addressing substance abuse.”

In February, based on recommendations from the task force, Pence instructed the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and the Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Mental Health & Addiction to identify a county criminal justice entity and implement a therapeutic program for incarcerated offenders.

The task force is scheduled to meet again Aug. 29 in northwest Indiana and Sept. 20 in southeast Indiana. Here is the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting.
