Karen Sue Bridges of Mitchell entered the plea Tuesday in Indianapolis federal court to one count of embezzlement. She was indicted last fall. Other charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. The (Bloomington) Herald-Times reports Bridges will serve 18 months in federal prison, six months on house arrest and 18 months on supervised release. She also must repay all of the money and complete 12 days of community service.
Bridges weepily apologized, saying she "let a lot of people down." She says her two teenage daughters "are very disappointed in their mother."
Federal prosecutors say Bridges stole cash bond payments from a safe that only she could access.
