Do You Know a Professional Superstar?

I imagine that at one point or another, you have had to listen to a friend share a really bad lawyer joke while making fun of our legal profession. If you are like me, you probably gave a polite smile or laugh while wincing inside at this negative connotation of the profession.

But we all know the truth—that there are some amazing legal professionals who are making the world a better place each day. And these legal professionals are doing so under extremely stressful situations, all while treating others with kindness and respect.

So, if you know a stellar attorney or judge who exemplifies professionalism, now is your chance to honor your colleague. The IndyBar Professionalism Committee is currently soliciting nominations for the 2017 IndyBar Professionalism Award (Attorney) and IndyBar Silver Gavel Award (Judge). Nominations are due by Friday, August 18th. You can nominate a deserving legal professional by completing a short nomination form at indybar.org/profawards. Award recipients will be honored at the IndyBar Professionalism Breakfast in early October 2017.

Be A Superstar – Volunteer for Ask a Lawyer

And speaking of amazing legal professionals who make a difference in the community, we need more of you to help us with the IndyBar’s Ask A Lawyer event on the afternoon of October 10, 2017. The IndyBar will place more than 100 attorneys at various public libraries throughout Indianapolis to offer free legal advice to community members. When we held our Spring 2017 Ask A Lawyer event, we assisted 470 community members!

I have served at this event for several years, and I always find it to be a very rewarding way to spend a few hours in the community. You would be surprised at how grateful people are for the opportunity to talk with an attorney about their legal problems. You can sign up to volunteer at indybar.org/probono. I am confident it will be a gratifying experience for you and a great way to get out of the office for a few hours!

Indy Bar’s Member Appreciation Month will be back this September, and we’ll once again offer some member favorites like free CLE, headshots, video production and shredding services! We are also working on some brand new offerings for 2017, and hope to be able to provide other unique benefits, such as health screenings/flu shots at the IndyBar office, discounted tickets to sporting events/attractions, free workshops for health and financial wellness, the free creation of commonly used business items—letterhead, business cards, email signatures, and the like.
