nissas-news-header-largeIn Remembrance: Please join the IndyBar’s HEAL Committee on November 1 at 3:30 p.m. in remembering, honoring and celebrating the lives of 19 members of our profession who have passed away during the previous year. Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush will open the ceremony in the Indiana Supreme Court Courtroom, and she will be joined by other members of the judiciary and IndyBar leaders.

This is an occasion to join in admiration and respect for colleagues in our distinguished profession, and it is also a chance to express sorrow and gratitude for individuals who have furthered the profession and given back to our Indianapolis community. After the ceremony, please stay for an informal reception in the Supreme Court lobby.

In Gratitude: Thank you to everyone who supported the Indianapolis Bar Foundation at The Evening Under the Stars Dinner Gala and Auction at Crane Bay Event Center on September 8. We welcomed more than 400 attendees who enjoyed a beautiful evening of bidding on auction items, camaraderie with old and new friends, and our inaugural late night after-party with a live band.

We also celebrated Kids’ Voice of Indiana receiving the IBF’s 2017 Impact Fund Grant. This award will fund Kids’ Voice’s Community Mobile Law Project in the Indianapolis area. And finally, the gala raised more than $80,000 to help the IBF continue to provide access to justice for those in our community who might not otherwise have access to a lawyer. What a great accomplishment!

In Support: During the month of October, the IndyBar’s Professionalism Committee is encouraging you to go shopping in support of the Exodus Refugee Center in Indianapolis. Exodus welcomes refugees to our city and helps provide for their basic needs as they work to rebuild their lives. The Professionalism Committee is collecting supplies from October 1-31, and there are two easy ways for you to shop.

You can purchase an item from an Amazon Wishlist on the IndyBar’s website, and the purchased item will ship directly to Exodus. You also can collect items from the wishlist and drop them at the IndyBar office any time during the month of October. Information on both collection options, including wishlist items, can be found online at indybar.org/exodus.

Exodus depends on the generosity of our community to provide for the incoming refugees, so please consider supporting this effort by our Professionalism Committee.•
