The Indiana State Bar Association announced the closure of the Gary Probate Division last month.
Lake Superior Court probate commissioner America L. McAlpin is now working with her staff and the staff of Lake Superior Courtroom 7 to review all files from Gary to determine whether they should be transferred to Crown Point as active cases or for closure, dismissal or other appropriate disposition. Those files have cause numbers beginning with either 45D03 or 45D04.
McAlpin was not available Tuesday to provide more information about the reason for the Gary Division’s closure. Attorneys and litigants with questions about the transfer of their cases can contact McAlpin – who is working under the auspices of Judge Diane Kavadias Schneider in Courtroom 7 – at 219-755-3305, or at 2293 N. Main St., Crown Point.
