Subscribe NowThe fundraising for the 2020 National Mock Trial Championships, which be hosted in Evansville, has hit a milestone after the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association pledged $25,000 and became the first major sponsor of the event.
To date, $143,000 has been pledged toward the goal of $250,000, according to the Indiana Bar Foundation. ITLA is the largest single donor with other individual donors pledging a total of $98,000 and the bar foundation contributing $20,000. The amount remaining to be raised is $107,000.
“One of the founding principles of our democratic society is the concept of trial by jury,” said ITLA president Frank Julian, attorney at Sweeney Julian P.C. “I cannot think of a more fitting partnership for the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association to be part of. We are looking forward to witnessing these outstanding young individuals display their talents.”
Evansville was selected as the host site for the national championship in May 2020. The funds being raised will underwrite competition space for 23 simultaneous trials, student entertainment and meals, and other expenses to host an expected 900 visitors to the Ohio River city.
Donald Lundberg, former president of the Indiana Bar Foundation, chairs the fundraising campaign with help from Brian Williams in Evansville and Jay Lewis in South Bend.
