The LaGrange County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges Monday against 21-year-old Jazieel DeLeon-Galvan of Ligonier. He was held Tuesday in the LaGrange County Jail.
Authorities say 44-year-old Velda C. Miller of Ligonier and her daughter, Melissa Jo, died in Saturday’s crash in the town of Topeka, about 40 miles northwest of Fort Wayne. Miller’s 46-year-old husband was driving the buggy and was taken to a hospital with neck pain.
The sheriff’s office has said DeLeon-Galvan told authorities he had just passed another vehicle when he hit the buggy, a vehicle common in an area with many Amish. He also went to a hospital.
