Justices appoint Lake Superior judge pro tempore

Lake Superior Court Judge Diane Kavadias Schneider will temporarily step down from her seat on the bench after informing the court she would be unable to perform the duties of her office.

Serving in her place as judge pro tempore will be attorney Stephen A. Tyler. Tyler’s term in the Lake Superior Court, Civil Division 7, will begin effective July 2 an upon his filing of an appropriate written oath of office. According to the Indiana Roll of Attorneys, Tyler is currently with the firm Johnson & Bell P.C. in St. John.  

Tyler’s tenure on the bench will remain in effect until further order of the court. Though he will not become judge pro tempore until July 2, the Tuesday order from the Indiana Supreme Court said Schneider’s was immediately unable to perform her duties.  

Tyler will be compensated at the same rate as the regular judge commencing from the effective date of his appointment.
