The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports that Nicholas Medrano was suspended for five days. The brief Instagram video showed the 35-year-old Lake County deputy transporting an inmate and both were smiling and bobbing their heads to music.
County Police Chief William Paterson said the video constituted unauthorized dissemination of department information.
The sheriff’s department also said it is looking into a stalking complaint made by a woman who says she previously had a relationship with Medrano. Officials would not comment further.
Medrano has an unlisted telephone number and could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Prosecutors earlier this year dropped rape charges against Medrano from 2017 because of insufficient evidence.
