The vacancy will occur in December when Judge John F. Surbeck, Jr. retires from his position in the Allen Superior Court Criminal Division.
Indiana Supreme Court Justice and commission chair Steven David announced Tuesday that applications to fill Surbeck’s seat on the bench are now available online or in the Allen County Clerk’s Office. The seven-member commission, which was created in 1983, will interview candidates to replace Surbek on Aug. 28 and Aug. 29, if necessary. Interviews will begin at 9 a.m. on Aug. 28 in Room 110 of the Allen County Courthouse.
In addition to David, commission members include:
- Holly Brady
- Ben Eisbart
- Angie Moellering
- Paul Sturm
- Mark Terrell
- Douglas Ulmer
After the interviews are complete, the commission will send the names of three finalists to Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb, who will select the next judge from the pool of three finalists.
