Hammond police, however, say they did nothing wrong in arresting the boy Wednesday for disorderly conduct while breaking up a fight between two girls at the Festival of the Lakes. Video posted online starts after officers brought Dominic Garibay to the ground.
Police spokesman Lt. Steven Kellogg tells The (Northwest Indiana) Times he’ll release body camera footage showing there was “definitely no police assault.” Police are investigating the arrest. They say the boy tried to get through and slapped away an officer’s arm.
His family disputes that account. The boy tells WGN-TV the officer pushed him.
