A Boone County judge this week issued orders scheduling a jury trial for 21-year-old Anthony Baumgardt of Lebanon for August 2020. His trial had originally been set to start July 31.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Baumgardt for the March 2 shooting of Boone County Deputy Jacob Pickett, who was chasing of Baumgardt with his police dog in Lebanon. The 34-year-old Pickett died three days later.
Baumgardt has pleaded not guilty but told reporters a few days after the shooting that he had no remorse for his actions and asked the judge whether he could seek the death penalty on his own.
