The Allen Superior Judicial Nominating Commission named Magistrate Judge Jennifer DeGroote and Fort Wayne attorneys George Sistevaris and Andrew Williams as finalists to succeed Levine. Gov. Eric Holcomb will choose Levine’s successor within 60 days of the commission’s letter formally notifying him of the finalists.

The commission, chaired by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David, received five applications to succeed Levine in August. On Monday, the commission announced finalists after interviewing just four candidates when one withdrew.

Holcomb currently has another pending Allen Superior Court vacancy to fill. The commission on Aug. 28 selected Anthony Churchward and magistrate judges Steven Godfrey and David Zent as finalists to succeed Judge John F. Surbeck, Jr.

Veteran jurists Surbeck and Levine this summer announced their plans to retire.

Allen County — along with Lake, Marion and St. Joseph — uses a merit-selection system to nominate candidates to its Superior Court. The Allen County Judicial Nominating Commission was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 1983. Along with David, its members are Holly Brady, Ben Eisbart, Angie Moellering, Paul Sturm, Mark Terrell and Douglas Ulmer.
