Terry Crone

The Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission will be accepting applications later this year for another Indiana Court of Appeals vacancy.

Judge Terry Crone plans to retire this fall, with his retirement following Judge Patricia Riley’s this summer.

Like Riley, Crone represents northern Indiana, so his successor will have to come from the 20 counties in the northern part of the state.

“Combined they have nearly 100 years of legal experience. We are incredibly grateful for their service to the judicial branch. We need your help to fill these vacancies,” the Indiana Supreme Court wrote in a letter to judicial officers and bar members from the 20 eligible counties.

The application for Riley’s vacancy on the bench is now open.

Applications for Crone’s vacancy will open at a later date.

“Our colleagues on the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals join us in urging you to consider applying—or to encourage your best and brightest colleagues to apply for these vacancies,” the high court wrote.

Crone was appointed to the appellate bench in 2004 by former Gov. Joseph Kernan.

Prior to serving on the appellate bench, Crone was elected to three terms as judge of The St. Joseph Circuit Court.
