Applications are now open to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Allen Superior Court bench as Judge Thomas Felts prepares to retire.

The Allen Superior Court Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David, is now accepting applications online.

Though Felts is retiring from the Circuit Court bench, the January 2021 vacancy will occur in Allen Superior Court Criminal Division after Superior Court Judge Wendy Davis transitions to the circuit bench following an unopposed election.

Applications for the Superior Court vacancy must be submitted through the Indiana Courts Portal by noon EDT on Friday, Aug. 21. The commission will interview candidates on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, if needed.

In addition to Justice David, members of the Allen Superior Court Judicial Nominating Commission include Ben Eisbart, Robert Kruger, Angie Moellering, Dan Palmer, Linda Polley and Mark Terrell.

Commissioners will select three finalists for the open position, and Gov. Eric Holcomb will choose the next Allen Superior Court judge from those finalists.

Felts has served as Allen Circuit judge since his election in 2002, before which he served as a magistrate judge beginning in 1989.
