The Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission has begun accepting applications for the vacancy on the Indiana Court of Appeals created by the retirement of Judge Terry Crone.
Candidates are required to be from the third district, which covers northern Indiana.
Candidates must also be a member of the Indiana Bar for at least 10 years or have served as an Indiana judge for five years. Candidates must provide pertinent background information, writing samples, references and educational transcripts.
The commission will consider the applications and letters of recommendation and then will conduct public interviews of qualified candidates. Interviews are expected to be conducted in October.
The commission recently conducted interviews for the upcoming vacancy following Judge Patricia Riley’s retirement in this month. Applicants who applied for that position will also be considered for Crone’s vacancy.
Applications are due by noon on Sept. 12.
Crone will be retiring this fall after 20 years on the appellate bench. He was appointed by Gov. Joseph Kernan in 2004.
Prior to the appellate bench, Crone was elected to three terms as judge of the St. Joseph Circuit Court.
He earned his undergraduate degree from DePauw University and his J.D. from Notre Dame Law School.
Crone was retained on the court by election in 2006 and 2016.
