The Marion County Judicial Selection Committee has opened applications for the vacancy created on the Marion Superior Court by the death of Judge Shatrese Flowers.
The Marion Superior Court announced Flowers’ death on Sunday, and the Judicial Selection Committee announced the opening of applications for her successor on Wednesday.
The committee is already in the process of filling the vacancy that will be created Judge Heather A. Welch’s upcoming retirement in February.
Applications for both vacancies are available online and must be submitted through the Indiana Courts Portal. The deadline to apply is at noon on Nov. 28. Only one application is required to be considered for both vacancies.
The committee is scheduled to meet on Dec. 15 to interview applicants for both vacancies. Details on the public interviews will be announced online.
Following the interviews, the committee will go into executive session to consider the applicants. It will then publicly vote to select two separate panels of three nominees each to send to Gov. Eric Holcomb, who will make the final appointments.
Holcomb is also accepting applications for an upcoming vacancy on the Daviess Superior Court, which will open when Judge Dean Sobecki retires Dec. 31.
Applications for the Daviess County vacancy are due by 5 p.m. on Dec. 4 and should be sent to the Governor’s Office, preferably via email to [email protected]. Hard copies can be sent to Governor’s Office, ATTN: Joseph R. Heerens, State House Room 206, 200 W. Washington St. Indianapolis, 46204.
