The position opened Sept. 3 when Judge Stevesn L. Hostetler retired from the St. Joseph Superior Court. He was granted senior judge status following his departure from the bench, which will stay in effect through the end of the year.
Hostetler is the second judge from the St. Joseph Superior Court to retire this year. David Chapleau, who was similarly granted senior judge status, also vacated the bench.
Indiana Supreme Court Justice and commission chair Geoffrey Slaughter announced Friday applications to fill Hostetler’s seat on the bench are now available online. Applications must be submitted through the Indiana Courts Portal by 12 p.m. ET on Oct. 12.
The commission, under Indiana law, is required to submit to Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb the five most highly qualified candidates for appointment when a vacancy arises.
Candidates applying for the office are confidential, according to state statute. The five nominees selected by the commission are expected to be publicly announced sometime in November following private interviews.
