An illegally armed fentanyl dealer was sentenced to five years in federal prison on Monday after pleading guilty to possession of fentanyl and cocaine with intent to distribute, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana announced.

LaDarien McGee, 27, of Indianapolis, was arrested on Jan. 9 after running from Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers, who were executing state search and fugitive arrest warrants on McGee, according to police reports.

When officers arrested McGee, they found a small bag of fentanyl pills on him. Officers also located a 9-millimeter Glock handgun in his vehicle.

During a search warrant of his residence, police found more fentanyl pills, cocaine and four more guns.

McGee has a previous felony conviction for trafficking with an inmate in Hendricks County and therefore cannot legally possess a firearm.

“Fentanyl is devastating our communities at an unprecedented rate. Illegally armed fentanyl dealers pose an even greater danger to the public,” said Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. “We continue to work diligently with the ATF, IMPD and other agencies to counter these deadly drugs and remove armed fentanyl dealers from our neighborhoods.”
