Winingham was elected representative by eligible members of the bar, as certified Friday by 906 votes.
Other candidates included Brent A. Auberry, James D. Metzger, Thomas R. Schultz and Zachary J. Stock.
Winingham, a partner at Wilson Kehoe Winingham, will succeed personal injury attorney James H. Young of Young & Young in Indianapolis, whose term on the commission expires Dec. 31.
Winingham earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Indiana University and was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1979. He will serve a three-year term.
Chaired by Chief Justice Loretta Rush, the Judicial Nominating Commission consists of three attorneys elected by the members of the bar in northern, central and southern Indiana, along with three lay members appointed from each district by the governor.
As a member of the JNC/JQC, Winingham will aid in the recruitment and interviewing of applicants to fill appellate court vacancies and the investigations into allegations of judicial misconduct.
