Hoosier families celebrating National Adoption Day will have the opportunity to capture special moments through the lens of a camera. The Indiana Supreme Court announced its authorization of cameras in court for uncontested adoptions during the month of November, allowing photography and video of the adoption proceedings.

Thirty Indiana trial courts will welcome 302 children joining their forever families this month. Cameras will be permitted in courtrooms to document the process in the following counties:

  • Allen
  • Bartholomew
  • Clark
  • Delaware
  • Elkhart
  • Fountain
  • Grant
  • Hamilton
  • Henry
  • Howard
  • Jennings
  • Johnson
  • Lake
  • Lawrence
  • Madison
  • Marion
  • Monroe
  • Montgomery
  • Morgan
  • Noble
  • Perry
  • Porter
  • Spencer
  • St. Joseph
  • Starke
  • Tippecanoe
  • Vanderburgh
  • Vigo
  • Wells

The Department of Child Services, Court Appointed Special Advocates, the Children’s Bureau and local adoption agencies will be involved in adoption events across the state. Each year there are about 4,800 adoptions in Indiana.
