The Indiana Court of Appeals will hear one oral argument next week to close out the month of July.

G.W. is a deaf person who was placed in a state hospital on an emergency basis. The Marion Superior Court held a virtual hearing where it concluded G.W. was gravely disabled and as a result ordered him to remain at a state hospital for at least 90 days.

On appeal, G.W. argues the trial court erred in requiring him to choose between a virtual hearing or a continuance and change of venue for an in-person hearing. He also argues that his placement at the hospital was inappropriate.

Judges L. Mark Bailey, Leanna Weissmann and Senior Judge Margret Robb will be hearing arguments in the case at 2 p.m. on July 31 in the Court of Appeals Courtroom in the Indiana Statehouse.

The case is Commitment of G.W., 23A-MH-2452.
