Dentons is the 6th largest law firm in central Indiana, based on the number of attorneys working at the firm.
According to the Indiana Business Journal’s 2024 Book of Lists, Dentons currently employs 79 local attorneys.
It combined with Indianapolis’s Bingham Greenebaum and Doll LLP in 2020.
Each of the firms Dentons will be combining with is deeply rooted in their local markets and offers experience in the energy, mining, bank, and finance sectors, according to a news release from the firm.
The firm will work with Kouengoua Minou Nkongho in Cameroon, Pathy Liongo & Associates in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tamrat Assefa Liban Law Office in Ethiopia, and LEGALIX in Senegal.
“We are delighted to be adding expertise in Cameroon, DRC, Ethiopia and Senegal. The energy of emerging markets across Africa is palpable,” said Elliott Portnoy, Dentons Global CEO and Kate Barton, Dentons’ Global CEO-elect in a released statement. “These four prestigious firms will strengthen our local legal counsel and deepen our ability to meet the needs of our clients – across Africa and the 80+ countries where Dentons has a presence.”
The firm released details about the four African-based firms.
Kouengoua Minou Nkongho has a 40-year history of managing complex cross-border legal discussions given its industries in oil and gas, minerals, and agricultural industries.
Pathy Liongo & Associates brings to Dentons experience and knowledge in business law, situated within the Congo’s multiple projects and investments in hydropower and transportation infrastructure.
Ethiopia is set to increase its economic future with projects in renewable energy, infrastructure, and manufacturing, according to Dentons. Tamrat Assefa Liban Law Office has been ranked by Chambers for seven years and provides expertise in cross-border investment and finance work in both real estate and renewable energy industries.
Like Cameroon, Senegal is launching initiatives to support its economy in industries like mining, in addition to agriculture, shipping, and petroleum refining. LEGALIX is a full-service firm with expertise in covering dispute resolution, M&A transactions, banking and finance, regulatory, tax, and competition law.
“Building a presence in Cameroon, DRC, Ethiopia and Senegal accelerates Dentons’ momentum in building the leading Pan-African law firm, owned and controlled by Africans,” said Noor Kapdi, Africa Region CEO, in the news release. “As the first global law firm located in the cities of Douala, Kinshasa, Addis Ababa and Dakar, Dentons is well-positioned to serve our clients as they begin to unlock opportunities in Africa from around the world.”
In addition to its African ventures, Dentons also recently combined with law firms in the Philippines, Vietnam, and India, in addition to launching new services in New Zealand and Namibia.
