Why did you decide to enter the legal profession?
I wanted to be a lawyer since the eighth grade.
What does “diversity” mean to you?
I think diversity means America. I think it means the fact that we are a country and always have been a country with a lot of different places and a lot of different people. It has been a place where many people have come to have a new start — as a result, a country was born.
Why is DEI important to the legal profession?
A good legal system tries hard to defend and protect people of all different kinds and all different regions. We haven’t always done a good job, and sometimes we need to do a better job. But I’m pleased today that we’re doing a much better job at representing a large group of human beings.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t write it if you can say it, don’t say it if you can nod it, don’t nod it if you can wink it.
How do you spend your free time?
Being in the outdoors and attending sports events with family and friends.
What was your favorite – and least favorite – class in law school?
Favorite: Estate Planning
Least Favorite: Tax
What advice would you give to young attorneys?
