A former patient’s estate is suing the Indiana Patient’s Compensation Fund for damages related to negligent care at Putnam County Hospital and other companies associated with her care team.

The Estate of Betty Foriest filed the lawsuit on Monday in Marion Circuit Court. The lawsuit alleges that Putnam County Hospital, Trilogy Health Services LLC, and Trilogy Management Services LLC, all part of the Owen Valley Health Campus, breached applicable standards of care, causing harm to Foriest.

As a direct result of their negligence, Foriest suffered a fractured femur, one or more advanced pressure sores, wound infection, permanent disability, disfigurement, loss of quality and enjoyment of life, and more, according to the lawsuit.

Further, the estate said that because of this negligence, Foriest picked up significant medical expenses to pay for the treatment of her injuries.

Her estate is asking for damages in the amount of the maximum statutory limit from the Indiana Patient’s Compensation Fund.

The case is Estate of Betty L. Foriest by Pamela Sierp-Abner as Personal Representative v. Indiana Patient’s Compensation Fund and Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Insurance, 49C01-2408-CT-035042.
