A former staffer in the Indiana governor’s office has joined Ice Miller LLP as an associate for the firm’s Government Affairs & Regulatory Law Group.

Before joining Ice Miller, Hamilton Smith served as senior operations director for Gov. Eric Holcomb, according to a news release from the firm.

During his time with the governor, Smith helped lead the development and implementation of state policy priorities and legislative agendas on health and human services.

Smith began his career as deputy legislative director for the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.

In his role, Smith worked with legislators and stakeholders to advance priorities of the administration through the Indiana General Assembly.

As an associate for Ice Miller’s government law group, Smith will help clients develop and implement public policy strategies, state and federal government procurement, and public and government relations issue management, according to the firm.

“We are thrilled to welcome Hamilton to our firm. His broad experience in the executive branch, particularly within the Governor’s Office and the state’s largest agency, provides unique insights valuable to our clients. Combined with his proven track record of effective collaboration with General Assembly members, Hamilton brings a comprehensive understanding of the legislative process that will significantly enhance our firm’s relationships and capabilities,” said Lawren Mills, chair of Ice Miller’s Government Affairs & Regulatory Law Group, in the release.

Smith graduated from Anderson University and the Indiana University McKinney School of Law.

He is based in Indianapolis.

Smith did not respond to a request for comment before IL’s deadline Friday.
