Former Johnson County Judge Jeffrey Eggers, 67, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering a person and operating a vehicle with alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more.
On Aug. 8, Eggers pleaded guilty in that case to operating a vehicle intoxicated while endangering a person charge, with the other count dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Special Judge James Worton sentenced Eggers to 365 days in jail with eight executed, credit for four actual days served and 357 days suspended to active probation.
As part of his probation agreement, Eggers is to participate in substance abuse evaluation and treatment.
His driver’s license was also suspended for 180 days and Eggers was ordered to pay $489 in court costs.
Eggers had been serving as judge pro tempore of Morgan Superior Court for Court of Appeals Judge Peter Foley, who was appointed to the appellate court in October 2022.
The Indiana Supreme Court released an order Dec. 5, 2022, stating Eggers was unavailable to serve as judge after Dec. 4.
On Dec. 12, 2022, Eggers was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, endangering a person and operating a vehicle with alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more.
Those charges were dismissed Aug. 11 and his $250 bond was released, according to mycase.IN.gov.
Eggers had been appointed as Johnson County Superior Court Judge in 1983 and moved to the circuit court in 1987.
He then left for private practice in 1994. More recently, he had served as temporary judge for Johnson Superior Court and senior judge in Hancock County.
