Applications are now open online for both traditional and lateral applicants.

In general, all applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must be at least 21 years old when appointed as a police employee
- Must meet a minimum vision standard (corrected or uncorrected)
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be a high school graduate (proof shown by either a diploma or GED)
Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on June 16.
The starting salary for a Capitol Police Probationary Officer is $62,327. After the first year, the salary increases to $64,472.
The starting salary for retired or police officers in good standing with 20 or more years of experience as a Tier I or Tier II officer is $75,431.
