Chelsea Crossland, who was sentenced to life without parole, argues that the Jay Circuit Court abused its discretion by denying her request for a change of venue and her motion to refuse certain jurors.
She argued she couldn’t receive a fair trial in Jay County due to pre-trial publicity.
According to court documents, Crossland’s son Christian died due to the combined effects of blunt force injuries, starvation, and dehydration.
The high court will hear the case of Chelsea L. Crossland v. State of Indiana beginning at 9 a.m. in the Supreme Court Courtroom at the Statehouse.
At 10 a.m., the high court will hear the case Chris A. Kelly v. Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, 23A-CT-2799, in which Kelly alleges the BMV breached its duty by not removing the “suspended” status of his license, resulting in his loss of a job opportunity.
The Marion Superior Court granted the BMV’s motion to dismiss, in which the BMV argued that the statutes Kelly cited didn’t allow him to sue the bureau.
The Court of Appeals reversed the trial court’s motion, and the BMV has petitioned the supreme court to accept jurisdiction over the case.
Oral arguments will be streamed online.
