A 26-year-old Indianapolis man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to transporting a minor across state lines with intent to engage in sexual activity.

Larry Goldsmith was sentenced Feb. 12 by U.S. District Court Judge Matthew P. Brookman in  Indianapolis.

Authorities say the case began in 2020 when Goldsmith began messaging a 14-year-old Michigan girl through social media apps.

In August 2020, the victim told Goldsmith she wanted to run away from home. According to court documents, Goldsmith, who was 21 years old at the time, drove to Michigan and picked the child up to take her back to his home in Indianapolis.

While the two lived together, Goldsmith repeatedly had sex with the victim and impregnated her, authorities say.

Goldsmith already is serving a 15-year sentence in connection with the drugging and raping of a 13-year-old girl in Georgia, according to a news release from the office of acting U.S. Attorney John E. Childress.

“Goldsmith is no longer a danger to children and families in our community,” Childress said in written remarks. “He is a manipulative, child predator who used the tools of social media to abuse a vulnerable child over and over again.”
