Ask a Lawyer, October 8
Ask a Lawyer is the IndyBar’s largest pro bono event, taking place twice each year at various locations throughout the city. Ask a Lawyer connects individuals seeking legal guidance with free face-to-face and call-in assistance from an IndyBar volunteer attorney. We’re looking for volunteers for the October 8 event.
Volunteers take on just one two-hour shift and are provided with a resource guide to help in assisting the public with questions on divorce, guardianship, child custody, child support, landlord/tenant issues, bankruptcy, personal injury, criminal law, employment law and more. Both attorney and paralegal volunteers are needed, and law students are encouraged to shadow attorneys during the event.
Free Wills Clinic, October 29 and November 12
Low-income individuals are more likely to die younger and without wills or advance directives in place — but you can help! Attorneys, paralegals and law students are needed as volunteers to do intake, conduct private legal consultations with qualified applicants, draft paperwork and witness document signing. Estate planning attorneys are needed but non-probate-savvy attorneys will also be put to good use. Have a notary license? You’re needed too!
This fall, we’ll be hosting the Free Wills Clinic on two separate dates: October 29 at the John Boner Neighborhood Center and November 12 at the VA Hospital.
