Subscribe NowOn Aug. 11, the Marion Superior Court Family Division, with the support of the IndyBar Family Law and ADR Sections, volunteer mediators, the Marion Superior Court Executive Committee, court administration and support staff hosted the largest Mediation Day to date. The goal for the day was 40 mediations; the day began with 37 mediations scheduled, 34 of which took place. 25 families reached complete or almost complete agreements, for a 74% success rate on resolution for those cases mediated.
This event previously took place on a smaller scale prior to the pandemic but had not been held since August 2020. All the mediators volunteered their time and energy to make this event successful; more volunteers signed up than there were cases available to mediate! Mediations were provided to the families at no cost. The event was hosted at the Community Justice Center, which offered ample space and other accommodations for the day. The positive feedback from all who participated was overwhelming and encouraging and is indicative of the wonderful legal community in which we practice.
Some special thank yous are due to those who made Mediation Day happen: Thank you to Magistrate Judge Marie Kern for chairing this event, the Marion Superior Court and CJC for hosting the event, all the volunteer mediators listed below and especially our lunch sponsor, Cross Glazier Reed Burroughs, PC. Plans are under way to make this a recurring event that happens multiple times a year, so stay tuned for updates! This event could not happen without the support and willingness of the volunteers, and we recognize and appreciate their efforts.
