Whether it’s through time, knowledge, or work product, our members strive to cultivate connection with the people who call Indianapolis home. IndyBar’s sections, divisions, and committees are always working to create these community support opportunities for our members. Here are some ways you can start the year off giving back.
• Participate in naturalization ceremonies as a representative of IndyBar. This is a happy occasion that the IndyBar is proud to be a part of, and it’s an exceedingly positive moment to witness as a volunteer. Representatives hand out pins on cards containing helpful resources to new United States citizens. Spots fill up quickly, but you can indicate you have flexible availability if no scheduled dates remain available. You can sign up at www.indybar.org/naturalization.
• Volunteer for our spring or fall Free Wills Clinics. Volunteers draft wills and advance directives for low-income families most in need. There is a limited time commitment.
• Sign up to work our Virtual Ask a Lawyer Online Helpdesk. When members of the community have a legal question to ask, our service allows them to ask a real attorney – someone like you! Staffed by IndyBar attorney members Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for one hour or more time slots, this is a simple and great opportunity to get Pro Bono Hours that work with your schedule.
• Join the Pro Bono and Public Outreach Commtitee! The committee oversees multiple projects (like the above) throughout the year. From community service projects coordinated by our sections and divisions to toy, food, and clothing drives to broader, community-impact events, you can always find a way to give back.
If you’re interested in joining the Pro Bono and Public Outreach Committee, email Kari Hartman ([email protected]). You can sign up for and learn more about current volunteer opportunities by visiting www.indybar.org/volunteer.•
