Recent challenges, ranging from the pandemic to widespread social unrest born of racial inequalities, have caused employers across all industries to take a careful look at their diversity and inclusion practices in the workplace and likewise have created a unique need for diverse legal counsel. As such, legal practitioners are tasked with meeting their clients’ heightened expectations of diversity and inclusion with regard to representation in their own respective practice areas. Essentially, finding a diverse pool of talent for your legal organization is paramount in today’s climate.
The benefits of having a diverse legal team, whether in the public or private sector, has been acknowledged by the Indianapolis legal community well before 2022. The Indianapolis Bar Association takes pride in its diverse legal community and is committed to promoting continued diversity as evidenced in its annual Diversity Job Fair. One-on-one student and employer interviews are an intricate portion of the Diversity Job Fair. To that end, providing diverse quality talent to employers is of utmost importance during this one-of-a-kind event. The IndyBar invests significant time and resources in searching for exceptional candidates from various diverse backgrounds across the state of Indiana and in the Midwest region. Employers are then allowed to peruse resumes and hand-pick candidates for interviews. Prior to the day of interviews, candidates are given additional materials and are encouraged to participate in a pre-fair workshop to assist in preparing for their interviews. By the time students reach the employer interviews, they are well-prepared for the interview process.
