Did you know that every year, the IndyBar Foundation awards a $35,000 grant to local law-related organizations? Now is your chance to promote one of the most important tools of the IndyBar Foundation’s work: the Community Empowerment Grant. The foundation is now accepting grant applications through March 31, 2024. Non-profit organizations and government entities are eligible for this grant, and the funds must be used to support a program that reinforces the Foundation’s mission and presents opportunities for members of the central Indiana legal community to participate on a pro bono or modest means basis.

The Community Empowerment Grant is a vehicle to maximize the financial generosity of foundation’s donors and to provide members of the Indianapolis Bar Association with compelling opportunities to donate their time through pro bono service. This is in addition to the more than $100,000 the Foundation gifts annually for other local legal programs. Formerly known as the Impact Fund Grant and renamed in 2020, the Community Empowerment Grant is an important tool in the foundation’s efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing justice and leading positive change in Indianapolis through philanthropy, education, and service. In the last thirteen years, recipients of this unique grant included the following:

2023 – You. Yes, You!

2022 – Indiana Disability Rights

2021 – Reach for Youth

2020 – COVID-19 solo/small firm practitioner direct support

2019 – Center for Victim and Human Rights

2018 – Indiana Legal Services Inc.

2017 – Kids’ Voice of Indiana

2016 – Indy Reads

2015 – Peace Learning Center

2014 – The Joseph Maley Foundation

2013 – Indiana Legal Services, Inc.

2012 – Reach for Youth Teen Court

2011 – I.U. Robert H. McKinney’s Health and Human Rights Clinic

If you know an organization that might benefit from the Community Empowerment Grant, please consider sharing this information. To apply or review application criteria, please visit www.indybar.org/CEG. All applications must be submitted by March 31, 2024. Selection will occur in April/May 2024, and the winning organization will be notified by May 10, 2024.
