Subscribe NowCandidates seeking to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Indiana Court of Appeals due to Judge John Baker’s pending retirement will now be interviewed in June, the Indiana Supreme Court announced on Friday.
Interviews were originally scheduled to take place on April 8 and were initially rescheduled for May 7-8. Due to the continued social distancing required to slow the spread of COVID-19, the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission is now scheduled to interview the candidates on June 10.
The location of the interviews will be announced on the vacancy website along with decorum rules that will be in effect. Those rules will include any adjustments required based on social distancing measures.
The interviews are scheduled as follows:
9 a.m.: Jason W. Bennett
9:20 a.m.: Bartholomew Superior Judge James D. Worton
9:40 a.m.: Erin L. Berger
10 a.m.: Joby D. Jerrells
10:20 p.m.: Break
10:30 a.m.: Abraham A. Navarro
10:50 a.m.: Putnam Circuit Judge Matthew L. Headley
11:10 a.m.: Terry W. Tolliver
11:30 a.m.: Lunch and Executive Session
1 p.m.: Crystal G. Rowe
1:20 p.m.: Morgan Superior Judge Peter R. Foley

Applications, along with writing samples, transcripts and letters of recommendation, are a matter of public record. Redacted applications are available online.
A second round of interviews will take place on July 1. The seven-member Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission, chaired by Indiana Chief Justice Loretta Rush, will publicly vote to select the three most qualified candidates in an executive session following those interviews. Those names will be submitted to Gov. Eric Holcomb, who has 60 days from receiving the list to make the appointment.
Baker is retiring July 31 after 31 years on the appellate bench and 13½ years as a Monroe County judge. He represents the appellate court’s District 1.
