Interviews set for 2 Marion County trial court judicial positions in Family Division

The Marion County Judicial Selection Committee will interview 22 applicants May 11 and 12 for two open positions in the Marion Superior Court Family Division.

The vacancies are the result of two upcoming retirements: Judge Elizabeth Christ, who will retire effective April 1, and Judge Marcel Pratt, who will retire effective May 31. Both judges are from the Criminal Division, but the Marion Superior Court Executive Committee decided to transition the two courts vacated by the retiring judges to the Family Division.

Interviews are open to the public and will be held in the Supreme Court Conference Room, Room 319, in the Indiana Statehouse, 200 W. Washington St. Indianapolis, 46204.

The schedule is as follows:

May 11

8:30-9 a.m. — Executive session to consider applicants

9-9:20 a.m. — Magistrate Kelly Scanlan

9:20-9:40 a.m. — Magistrate Marie Kern

9:55-10:15 a.m. — Magistrate Katie Melnick

10:15-10:35 a.m. — Magistrate Stefanie Crawford

10:35-10:55 a.m. — Magistrate James Snyder

11:10-11:30 a.m. — Pamela Grant-Taylor

11:30-11:50 a.m. — Linda Major

11:50 a.m.-12:10 p.m. — Bryan Stoffel

1:30-1:50 p.m. — Magistrate Joel Schneider

1:50-2:10 p.m. — Magistrate Melanie Kendrick

2:10-2:30 p.m. — Gregory Bowes

2:45-3:05 p.m. — Valerie Johnson

3:05-3:25 p.m. — Kenneth Riggins

3:25-3:45 p.m. — Magistrate Diane Cowger

3:45 p.m. — Executive session to consider applicants

May 12

After interviews, the committee will deliberate in a private executive session and then hold a public vote.

The committee will have the following guidelines in place for audience members:

Only enter and exit between interviews.

Recording equipment should be set up between interviews.

Artificial lighting is not allowed.

Questioning of the applicants is reserved for the committee.
