JNC to interview 9 candidates in July for Najam vacancy on COA

The Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission on July 11 will interview nine judges and lawyers who have applied to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Court of Appeals of Indiana.

The interviews for the seat that will soon be vacated by COA Judge Edward Najam Jr. will be open to the public and will be held in the Fuse East Conference Room on the second floor of the South Tower at Capital Center, 201 N. Illinois St., Indianapolis.

The interview schedule for July 11 is as follows:

8:45-9:30 a.m.: JNC executive session to consider applications
9:45-10:15 a.m.: Jane D. Wilson
10:15-10:45 a.m.: Morgan Superior Court Judge Peter R. Foley
10:45-11:15 a.m.: Jason W. Bennett
11:30 a.m.-noon: Bartholomew Superior Court Judge James D. Worton
Noon-12:30 p.m.: Yvette M. LaPlante
12:30-1:30 p.m.: Lunch and JNC executive session to consider applications
1:30-2 p.m.: Vigo Superior Court Judge Lakshmi Y. Reddy
2-2:30 p.m.: Stacy R. Uliana
2:45-3:15 p.m.: Vigo Superior Court Judge John T. Roach III
3:15-3:45 p.m.: Owen Circuit Court Judge Kelsey B. Hanlon

Following the interviews, the commission will meet in executive session and then publicly vote to select the three most qualified candidates. The list of three finalists will then be submitted to Gov. Eric Holcomb, who will have 60 days to select the next Court of Appeals judge.

The individual selected to the position will succeed Najam, who will step down this summer after 30 years on the appellate bench.

The seven-member Judicial Nominating Commission is chaired by Indiana Chief Justice Loretta Rush. The commission includes three lawyers elected by their peers and three citizen members appointed by the governor.
