The Indiana Supreme Court has completed its annual list for jury pool assembly, once again reminding trial courts to cease the past practice of obtaining lists of potential jurors from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

In an order issued Friday, the court approved the 2021 Master List for Jury Pool Assembly. The list merged BMV customer files and taxpayer records, sorting out people in either list who are deceased, underage, nonresidents or noncitizens.

Counties are to use the list or compile their own jury pool list by using voter registration lists supplemented by property tax records, phone directories or utility customer lists.

As it has in years past, the Supreme Court’s order reminded county courts to no longer use data for jury pool lists collected from the BMV. “This practice has been discontinued; courts are to use the Master List created by this project, not contact the BMV directly,” the order says.
