In partnership with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, the bar association’s Legal Support Section launched the funding campaign, “Raise the Bar for Hunger Relief,” which ran from Oct. 5 through 23. Organizers hoped to collect $5,000.
However, more than 50 donations by individual bar association members, lawyers, law firms and companies throughout Lake County pushed the contribution total to $10,175. With every dollar donated equaling three meals, the bar association’s gift will provide 30,000 meals to individuals facing hunger in Lake and Porter counties.
Sheila Blasko, chair of the Lake County Bar Association’s Legal Support Section and LCBA executive director Debra White recently presented the donation to Allyson Vaulx, vice president of development and communications for the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana.
