The team at McCarter & English LLP hopes to move into their new office space in Carmel in September. Front row, L-R: Joseph Boccassini, managing partner; Sandra Carr, associate; Allyson Emley, associate; Carmel Mayor James Brainard; Katherine Althoff, partner; Michael Garvey, partner at Lauth. Back row, L-R: Kimberly Castellino Metzger, partner; Mary Gabriel, deputy managing partner; Jordan Kidd, associate; Joseph Lubertazzi, chairman; Amy Fisher, partner; Jenell Fairman, deputy director of the Carmel Redevelopment Commission; Henry Mestetsky, director of the Carmel Redevelopment Commission.

The team at McCarter & English LLP now has a permanent office within the city of Carmel’s coveted 1st on Main project.

The East Coast law firm announced its expansion into the Indianapolis area about a year ago and has been in a temporary coworking space while looking for a project that fit the firm’s needs.

Now, Katherine Althoff, a partner at McCarter & English, said the firm has landed in a “very vibrant” space.

“You really can’t beat the corner of Rangeline and Main Street,” she said, referring to the intersection that holds the 1.7-acre project.

1st on Main is a $40 million project that will include 35 apartments, a 310-space public parking garage and a four-story, 73,000-square-foot office building with restaurant space and a private rooftop terrace.

McCarter & English’s space is 9,100 square feet, according to the firm, and it will have right of first refusal on additional space. The firm is aiming for a Sept. 1 move-in date.

Althoff said she likes to ride her bike to work when the weather is nice enough, and many of the firm’s other attorneys are active, too.

She said the building has a “wellness room” with a shower, and the space is only two blocks from the Monon Trail.

McCarter & English Managing Partner Joe Boccassini said he wants the new office to be the “standard for the future.”

Both said they hope the new office can also give the firm a competitive advantage to attract new talent. It’s difficult to do that from a temporary coworking space, Althoff said.

“We wanted to really show the community how dedicated McCarter & English is to this community,” she said.
