A Delaware County jury convicted a Muncie man of multiple drug-related crimes Wednesday.

According to the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office, the jury convicted Reginald Akins Jr., 58,  of dealing in cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, driving while suspended and possession of paraphernalia.

The jury also found Akins to be a habitual offender in that he has accumulated two prior unrelated felony convictions: armed robbery and possession of methamphetamine.

Judge Judi Calhoun of the Delaware Circuit Court No. 1 withheld setting a sentencing date pending the arrest of the defendant.

Akins has multiple cases pending and was being held in jail pending trial.

However, on May 3, the court, over the state’s objection, permitted Akins to post bail and be released.

On May 17, the court granted the state’s motion to revoke bail based on the allegation that Akins removed his electronic home detention bracelet and an arrest warrant was issued.

Akins failed to appear for his own jury trial this week.

The prosecution proceeded with trial in Akins’ absence. There is currently a warrant for Akins’ arrest.

Anyone who may know the whereabouts of Akins should call the Delaware County Drug Taskforce at 765-747-4866 or the Delaware County Dispatch Center at 765-747-7878.

Akins faces up to 29 years in prison and $25,500 in fines, based on his charges. His habitual offender enhancement could add an additional six-to-20 years to the total sentence, according to the prosecutor’s office.
