A Delaware Circuit Court judge sentenced a Muncie man to 78 years in prison Wednesday after his December conviction for murdering his ex-wife.

Delaware Circuit Court Judge John Feick sentenced Ceaser Curtis, 51, for the crime, which was committed in September 2023.

Murder is punishable by 45 to 65 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Curtis’ sentence was allowed to be enhanced due to his status as a habitual offender.

After the verdict was returned in December, Curtis acknowledged that he is an habitual offender and had two prior felony convictions for arson and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Delaware County Chief DeputyProsecutor Zach Craig said in a news release that murder as the most brutal murder he has seen in his entire career.

Curtis was accused of fatally beating 46-year-old Marcia Curtis with a baseball bat. She had divorced him a few months before her death.

Investigators spoke to a witness who informed police that Curtis told him he “did it.”

Curtis allegedly told the witness he hit his ex-wife with a baseball bat and left her near a reservoir. The witness led police to a site on 13800 E. County Road South.

Police discovered Marcia Curtis’ body there with significant head trauma.
