A Muncie woman sentenced for dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, the Delaware Prosecutor’s Office announced on Feb. 21.

Holly J. Terry, 42, was sentenced to 37 years for Level 1 felony dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death.

“This marks the eighth time a Delaware County jury has found a defendant guilty and a judge has sentenced a drug dealer for Dealing Resulting in Death. Our community is speaking loud and clear – if you deal drugs and one of your customers dies as result you will be held accountable. The days of drug dealers preying on the weak and vulnerable are long gone. We will continue to aggressively prosecute these crimes. I am proud of Chief Deputy Zach Craig and Deputy Prosecutor Andrew Ramirez, Prosecutor Investigators Heather Stanley and Alyssa Sorrell as well as Delaware County Sheriff’s Detective Matt Kubiak for their hard work and dedication in this case,” Delaware County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Hoffman said in a news release.

According to the probable cause affidavit, in October 2021, deputies of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a Muncie home to discover Melinea Duncan dead in the living room.

Melinea’s husband, Chester Duncan stated that she was lying in the living room and when he checked on her she was unresponsive and cold. He said that she had no pulse and that she exhaled on her pillow. She had a history of narcotic use and there were Narcan dispensers found in the house and around where she was found.

The autopsy report showed Melinea died from an acute mix drug intoxication and the manner of death was classified as an accident. Her fentanyl level was at 30.5, norfentanyl 4.5 and oxycodone 84.1.

Chester stated when interviewed that Melinea used heroin and only bought from Terry and that he saw her the night his wife died.
