United States of America v. Eric Bard, Carlo Payne and Antonio McClure
21-1521, 21-2618, 21-2689
Appeals from the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, Indianapolis Division. Judge James R. Sweeney II.
Criminal. Affirms the convictions of Carlo Payne and Antonio McClure for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and Eric Bard’s sentence to more than 21 years for distribution of 50 grams or more of meth. Finds the district court did not err in striking a Black potential juror or in permitting a detective to offer dual-role testimony. Also finds the evidence is sufficient to support Payne and McClure’s convictions. Finally, finds Bard’s sentence is not substantively unreasonable.

Court of Appeals of Indiana
Brandi S. Bare v. State of Indiana (mem. dec.)
22A-CR-2879
Criminal. Affirms Brandi Bare’s convictions of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and reckless homicide, and her 57-year aggregate sentence. Finds Bare waived her ability to directly appeal her convictions following a guilty plea. Also finds Bare has not met her burden to establish that her sentence is inappropriate.
Estate of Richard A. Woods v. Sandra Reeves (mem. dec.)
22A-EU-2469
Estate, unsupervised. Reverses the Marion Superior Court’s order granting Sandra Reeves’ petition for declaratory judgment, declaring the buyout amount to be $113,500, and directing Reeves to tender that amount to the court in exchange for the estate of Richard Woods conveying to her its interest in the property. Finds the trial court erred in essentially forcing a sale of the estate’s interest in the property to Reeves. Remands with instructions.
