Free training for lawyers on modest means and pro bono representation of domestic violence victims will be available next month, sponsored by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana.

The Northern District announced the virtual program Monday.

Kerry Hyatt Bennett, legal counsel for the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, will provide the attorney training from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. CDT on Friday, Sept. 18. The training aims to increase attorney awareness of and participation in the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s Satellite Attorney Program, which provides representation to victims of domestic violence.

Samantha Hickok and Annette Nickel will present on behalf of the Pokagon Band of Pottawatomi Indians, a sovereign nation that covers four counties in southwest Michigan and six counties in northern Indiana. Their presentation will give information about the Pokagon Band and the needs of tribal domestic violence survivors.

Opening remarks will be given by Chief Judge Jon E. DeGuilio. The event will take place via Zoom video conferencing.

Those interested in attending the free event must be attorneys licensed to practice law in the Indiana. Registration is required and can be completed here.

The event provides 2 hours of continuing legal education credit.
